Great news, but keep an eye on practice updates.

Clayton is confirming a New York Daily News report that Nicks is "at best, uncertain" for Monday night's game against the Rams. "The knee is day to day but there is definite concern about this week," says Clayton. We're guessing that Domenik Hixon would start opposite Mario Manningham if Nicks can't go. Hixon could shape up as a nice "handcuff" waiver addition with St. Louis possibly missing both starting corners.

"I don't see myself missing anytime," said a confident Nicks, who didn't practice on but was cleared for running. Nicks insists he feels "much better" now than he did earlier in the week. Nicks is a competitor, so be sure to take his words with a bit of a grain of salt. It's still promising to hear after ESPN's John Clayton reported that Nicks' Week 2 status was "in doubt" on Tuesday.

Coach Tom Coughlin said Nicks "made good progress" Thursday, so he's headed in the right direction. Nicks confirmed that the swelling in his knee has continued to go down. Per ESPN New York's Ian Begley, Nicks will make the call on his status for Monday's game. If he feels the same as he did Thursday, he will be on the field.

Nicks only got work in individual drills. The Giants will not leave Hicks' availability for Monday night up to the player, rather making a determination based on their medical diagnosis. That indicates a full-blown game-time decision. Nicks, of course, is worth the wait if you can secure Domenik Hixon. The starter will square off with an extremely battered Rams secondary.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Nicks could end up being a true game-time decision for Monday Night Football, but guaranteed on Friday that he'll be active against the Rams. That should be the case as long as he experiences no new swelling over the weekend, but he's going to be a shaky play for fantasy owners setting their lineups on Sunday morning. Domenik Hixon will get the start if Nicks can't go, and Mario Manningham could be in for a huge night against a banged up Rams secondary.

Nicks is still considered a game-time decision, but this is the second positive report about his status heading into pre-game warmups. ESPN's Suzy Kolber previously reported that Nicks "likely" would play against the Rams. The inactives list will be posted by 7:30ET Monday. We'd bet on Nicks playing, but Mike Sims-Walker, Domenik Hixon, and Brandon Gibson are all worthwhile fall-back plans if he's a surprise, last-minute scratch.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Nicks is not trending in the right direction. He's now missed two straight days of practice and Newsday's Bob Glauber believes Nicks will not be ready in time for Sunday's game against the Patriots. It's possible he'll end up as a game-time call. Either way, Mario Manningham and Victor Cruz are excellent WR2 plays as the Giants figure to go pass heavy without Ahmad Bradshaw.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>He's now hoping to participate in individual drills on Thursday, but sounds like a long-shot to turn in a full practice. Nicks is looking much more questionable for Week 10 than originally expected, and could end up being a game-time decision. His status could change in a hurry the next two days, but it's clear you need to have an alternative ready.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Nicks is expected to start after passing an individual workout on Saturday and practicing on a limited basis this week. He'll be at less than 100 percent but is still worth starting and should tentatively be in fantasy lineups. Mario Manningham (knee) is a full blown game-time decision. With New York not playing until 4:15 ET, owners should have a fallback plan in the event Manningham can't go.
